Treatment process :
Recycling of chlorinated hydrocarbons

Recycling of chlorinated hydrocarbons

  • Chlorinated hydrocarbons are organic chlorine containing compounds. These can be produced or can arise as by-products in certain industrial processes, mainly petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry.
  • PCB's are liquids coming from the treatment (emptying, washing) of transformers
  • Both (1 + 2) are incinerated at temperatures > 2000°C (avoiding also dioxine-formation) to generate HCl (dry form). This mineral chlorine compound reacts with ethane to form dichlorethane (DCE). Afterwards DCE is cracked to vinylchloride, which is polymerised afterwards to PVC. (used in road and building works)
